The fall in oil prices in 1986 led to the emergence of structural difficulties in the Algerian economy and society. The ambition of the various economic programs, the strong involvement of the government in the management of the economy, as well as the importance bulk of financial resources expected from the future rent led to neglect the necessary resolution of the structural difficulties over more than 15 years. This research aims at investating the economic theory about the causes of the overindebtedness of Algéria. The nature of the Algerian economy, based on rent (windfall) and state-administered economy has contributed to the rejection of the ""classical"" theories of the overindebtedness.
